Sustainable Island Architecture

Owner/Builder/Artist Stacy Beamer and his family wanted to “Go Green” by creating a home that was built with as much material from Bowen Island as possible. Over the next five years Beamer hand selected the 40 Fir and 20 Cedar trees and custom milled them on a sawmill built from scratch. Over 95% of the lumber required to create this exceptional residence came from the local area.

Beamer used his Island contacts to collect the timber required for the project from various Bowen Island development projects including the Bowen Island Golf Course. The trees were hand milled to form all the posts, beams, framing and sheathing required for the home. “It always shocked me that we ship beautiful fir and cedar off Bowen Island only to buy back lesser quality spruce.” says Beamer. “The result was a home built with more local timber then any home built in almost 5 decades”
